DIY Project – Adding a Ceiling Fan – PART 1

Efiwym, my wife, and I like ceiling fans. But we only have two ceiling fans installed.  One in the family room, which we barely use.  And one in our bedroom, which we always use. In fact, about three years ago we had only one.  Which was in the room we barely use, the family room.  I would like to install another ceiling fan.  That room would be the living room where we spend most of our time.  It would require me to punch some holes in the walls to thread in the wiring to the fan.  It is possible, but it would be too much work.  Maybe someday.

I am not sure why we replaced the ceiling fan in the family room about three years ago.  Maybe, we just wanted to update the look. Get rid of the brass-colored ceiling fan and replace it with a bronze one.  The bronze theme was taking over the house, so that made sense.  We did not get rid of the fan, however.  Why would we?  We save everything.  We decided to install the brass-colored 1980’s ceiling fan in our bedroom.  The bronze theme had not hit the upstairs just yet.

In the summer, the upstairs bedrooms just do not get cool enough with the air conditioner.  The rooms are usually a few degrees warmer than the first floor.  Efiwym does not like to keep the house closed up in the summer.  She likes the windows open on days that are not extremely hot.  If it is too hot before we go to bed, she does not have a problem cranking up the a/c. However, if you wait too long, or if you decide to keep the windows open upstairs, the ceiling fan helps move the air around to make it more comfortable.

We do not have overhead lights in our bedrooms.  Overhead lighting apparently died when home builders decided switched outlets were the way to go.  I like switched outlets, but they are usually not located where you want your lamps to go.  But I can’t complain about our bedroom because they got it right.  So, I needed to run some power to a ceiling box.
