I went back to the home improvement store, where I could save big money, to return the adhesive and get the right one that I found on their website. Also, Efiwym, my wife, suggested I get a new dryer vent. The store had the exact same dryer vent we had before. I headed home with my adhesive and new dryer vent.
When I got home, I was raring to go. I do not believe I thought through the gluing part. The opening of the adhesive container was small making it difficult to get the adhesive evenly on the trowel. In the laundry room, I rolled back the flooring by the entrance. I wanted to make sure the flooring would butt up tightly against the wood floor, even though I was going to put down a metal threshold. I slopped some adhesive down on the floor and started to spread it around. There was adhesive all over the place. On the trowel handle, my hands, my socks, my pants, the wall, the flooring and the door jamb. I could not have done any worst job of applying adhesive.
Now, it was time to roll down the flooring. I needed to re-align the floor, but not much. I pushed on the flooring and adhesive squeezed out of the edges. Great, more adhesive mess. I wiped the excess adhesive with a wet rag and continued to press down on the floor. I borrowed Efiwym’s rolling pin to continue with flattening down the floor. I could have rented a weighted floor roller, but a rolling pin worked on the other floors before.
I rolled back the other side of the flooring and continued the process. I applied the adhesive to the flooring. However, I was running out of adhesive. I did the math on the coverage. I should have enough of the adhesive. I must have been laying it on too thick. I could not get a trowel with smaller notches. Nonetheless, I spread out the adhesive and focused on the edges of the flooring instead. It was too late to stop now.
After I spread out the rest of the adhesive, I rolled the flooring back. I tucked the flooring under the threshold and smoothed out the flooring with the rolling pin. Time to let the adhesive dry. I was done for the day.
