DIY Project – Upcycling Our Kitchen Cabinet Doors – Phase 2 – Door & Drawer Assembly

I had very little problems putting together the doors.  As I was getting better at cutting the panel moldings.  I only cut one piece of molding too short.  Otherwise, I cut the moldings on the miter saw and attached them in place with the pneumatic nail gun.  Once the panels were in place, I screwed down the hinges on all three doors.  I was now clamping down the hinges so they would not move as I screwed them down.  I was a little nervous that I would have issues with the doors as the hinges did not fit tight against the rabbet on the doors.  I would find out soon.

I taped down the steel rule from the combination square to the bottom shelf.  The door would sit on the rule to create the gap I needed between the door and rabbet.  I struggled getting the doors tight against the cabinet opening as I tried to screw down the hinges on the cabinet frame.

Success!  All the doors opened and closed without hitting the inside of the cabinet frames.  As I stepped back, the door frames on the lower cabinet looked like crap.  The stain was spotty with light and dark spots around the frame.  The panels look find.  When Efiwym mentioned the blotchiness of the doors, I knew I had to redo the doors.  There was no way to justify keeping these doors as they were. Major Fail!

Disgruntled, I still installed the drawer fronts.  My biggest problem was crooked drawer handles.  Using the same holes for the handles, the new ones were not level.  I know I was drilling the holes in straight.  I just went with a larger drill bit and used the larger holes to adjust the handle.  Done!

Efiwym was a great help.  She took the 3 piles of stuff I poured from the drawers and organize them and put all the items back into drawers when I was done.
