After sleeping in and having a late breakfast, Efiwym, my wife, and I were back outside to finish our stump removal project. All was left was cutting off the roots to detach the remaining stumps from them. Efiwym would pull the stumps away so I could get a good whack at the roots with my sharpened axe. Sometimes Efiwym would grab a root and pull it up from the ground. I now had to go back and cut back the root or help her try to completely remove it. While I understood that she wanted to completely remove the stumps and roots, my goodness, she was making work for me. I was thinking we would have this project wrapped up in a couple of hours, it was going to be a full Sunday afternoon project.
Don’t forget that I hate landscaping, and this project was not originally mine. I did not need any additional area to cut more grass. However, I did not say anything and complied with her requests. She wanted our yard to look good and I could agree with her with that.
We eventually completed the stump removal. We still had other things to do. We needed to get some dirt to fill in the holes. Plus, we planned on seeding the area and adding some type of barrier at the tree line edge. As I walked away from the tree line, I gave out a big sigh of relieve. No Zen moment for me here, but I believe Efiwym had a sense of accomplishment.
