DIY Project- Someone Else’s Project
Efiwym, my wife, and I met up with her siblings and spouses last weekend. My sister-in-law’s husband knocked off the screen door of their patio door. I said out loud that I hate sliding screen doors. I had owned a home that had one and I spent way too much time adjusting the rollers so it would do it was supposed to do: slide. Nagem, Efiwym’s sister-in-law said, we have one too, and you installed it.
I suddenly had one of those flashbacks. Yes, many years ago, I did install a new patio door for her and Efiwym’s brother, Evad. I swore after that debacle, I would never volunteer my just-okay DIY skills again.
I have done some DIY projects for others in the past, like bath surrounds, screen doors and shower doors. The projects were just for family and the expectations were high, not for them, but for me. I can be forgiving on some of my just-okay results of my DIY projects. However, with others, I wanted the end results to be perfect. I had call backs for small fixes, like installing the lower track on the shower door backwards. Nothing like water leaking on the bathroom floor.
But it the was the installation of this patio door that ended any chance of me helping out on someone else’s project again.
