DIY Project – New Washing Machine

A new drain pump for the washing machine did not fix the problem. I could not return the drain pump, but maybe I could sell it on eBay®, and I did.  I got half my money back and I put the used pump on eBay® too.  I wanted to cut my losses.

We bought a new washer that day and it was delivered 2 days later.  It was a different brand and had a larger capacity.  Now we have mismatched appliances, but they are both white.  When they installed it, they jammed the drain hose in the middle opening of the tub cover and left off the drain hose holder.  I did not understand why they did not put the hose in the cutout in the corner of the top.  Fortunately, I kept the holder from the old washer (Efiwym’s, my wife, idea).

As I was fixing the drain hose with the holder so it fit better over the tub, my socks were getting wet.  I was not sure if it was me, or the installer when we were working on the filler hoses under the tub. But the waste pipe was disconnected from the tub.  Most of the water went down the pipe, but some made it to the floor.  I reset the pipe, and all was good, except for some wet socks and more wet towels.

When we were at the store, we discussed the issue of the door.  The old washer had a hinged handle on the door.  The door fit under the cabinet above.  The new washer has a solid top and would hit the cabinet before it was completely open. Once we were home, we came up with possible solutions to keep the door upright.  A bungee cord, Velcro, a hook, or a Styrofoam block.  The need for a solution was moot, however.  When they installed the washer, they kept it about four inches further out than the dryer. Not the best look, but they did not match anyways.

You cannot replace an appliance without cleaning out the space around it.  Efiwym spent time cleaning inside the laundry tub.  It was really dirty.  She almost got it looking new.  We have a 19-inch-wide metal cabinet with a laundry tub.  It came with the house.  They are not that popular anymore.  Homes are being built with cabinets with laundry tubs installed in them or in-wall washer hookups are provided. The front panel was scratched, so I repainted it.  Nothing solves a DIY problem like getting something new.
