DIY Project – Master Bathroom – Shower Renovation – Shower Door

The glass shower door we purchased cost us more than we like to spend.  Why put on a door that would junk up a shower reno or have to be replaced as it gets old.  It had a brushed nickel finish and clear glass door and panel.  I did not know until I read the directions, that there was only one sliding door and a fixed glass panel.  It was recommended to install the door on the shower valve side so you can turn on the water.  Unfortunately, that would not work as you needed to step over the toilet to get in and out of the shower.

The shower joints were already caulked so I could install the door.  I had the doors in another bedroom.  I opened all the boxes and put the parts on our dresser and bed.  It was critical I had the brackets plumb and square.  Being extremely careful, I took my time to make sure the brackets were in the right place before I drilled holes into the shower walls.  Piece by piece, the doors were getting installed.  In time I had the panel and then the door in place.  I slid the door open and close a few times and the doors were done.  I still needed to caulk on the outside of the door and install a silicone strip to the panel.

(I had a leak by the glass panel where the silicone strip was in place.  After re-reading the directions and looking closely at the diagrams, I discovered I had the strip on the wrong side of the panel.  It belonged on the inside of the shower.  Problem solved.)
