DIY Project – Master Bathroom – Shower Renovation – Drywall

I do not like drywalling.  I wish I was good at it.  I am not bad installing it, but I have not improved on taping and mudding. Since we removed the drop ceiling over the shower, I had to put new drywall on the ceiling and the walls above the shower.  I also had to fix the drywall by the front of the shower.

The ceiling went well.  However, the walls around the shower, not so. Because the flanges of the shower walls were screwed to the studs, the drywall could not fit tight against the studs.  I needed to shave the underside of the drywall that touched the shower walls.  Even with the removal of some of the thickness of the drywall, the drywall bowed in near the walls.  It was hard to notice above the 7-foot shower walls, but very noticeable along the side walls in the front.

I bought this self-adhesive drywall tape with holes in it.  Supposedly easier to install and cover.  Not true.  I spread many layers of joint compound on the joint between the new and old ceiling.  To this day, as I look up, I see the joint.  The tape seemed to bubble up in the middle.  The holes eventually filled in but would telescope through the joint compound.  It really needs to be redone.  The same goes with the mudding of the inside corners above the shower.  I am not proud of my work. It is a constant reminder every time I step into the shower.  My left shoulder was still limited at that time, so I blamed it for my inability to apply and sand down the joints.

I was at the point in this project, that I wanted it done.  We had lived without our shower for over two months.  I was tired of this project and wanted normalcy.
