DIY Project – Low Voltage Lighting Installation – Part 2

I needed to go to the store for low voltage lighting wire. Before I went, I checked for pricing of low voltage wiring. I needed six feet, but the minimum amount was fifty feet. That would be $18.00 for just the six feet I needed. I also had to bury the wire, so I would buy two bags of mulch.

I went to the store, bought the wire and mulch. While I was there, I found a wire connector. I needed only one, but it came in a pack of two. I originally was just going to twist the wires together, but this method seemed to be a better application. So, in the cart it went. 5 more dollars.  $40 later, I returned home.

When I got home, I immediately finished the project. Clipped the wires together. Done. Clipped the lamp wires to the main wire. Done. Next, I needed to bury the wire. I first had to tape up all the connections with electrical tape. I moved along the path, one light at a time, and I taped up the clips. Each light had two silver-colored labels.  There would be no way I would be able to cover up these labels. One by one, I cut off each label being careful not to cut the wires.

I used one and one half bags of mulch to cover up the wires. I could see the path of new mulch along the lights, but soon the new mulch would weather. I pulled the black tape off the sensor, screwed the sensor to the siding and waited for dusk.  Wow, these lights gave off so much more light than the solar ones.  35 years later, after I fixed the GFCI outlet, I had my Zen moment.
