Nothing left to do but to get the vinyl floor installed. Well maybe not the only thing left to do. I need to install the baseboards, the quarter rounds, threshold, and the toilet.
I went downstairs to get the glue and the trowel. I decided when we purchased the flooring NOT to buy any more glue. I had adhesive from the mudroom project. It should be plenty.
When I opened the can of glue, I noticed I used three-quarters of the can of glue. For a 3-foot by 3-foot space I used a lot of glue. I definitely did not have enough to glue down the floor. What a dope! I wanted this project to take only 2 days. Now I needed to go out and buy adhesive.
Efiwym, my wife, was looking at the directions from the flooring and it indicated that the floor could be free-floating or edge-glued too. Between the toilet, the baseboards, the corner rounds, and the threshold, that flooring would not go anywhere. I decided to just edge-glue it and that is what I did.
After a dry-fit test, it was time to glue it down. The most difficult part of the install was getting the adhesive out of the can. I started in the back and spread adhesive along the back wall, the cabinet, and the toilet flange. Once I got the glue down around the three walls, I dropped the flooring into place. I smoothed out the floor with my hands around the edges. Then I lifted the front edge with one hand and applied glue with the other hand along the wall and door opening. I laid down the flooring and pushed it tight against the wood floor edge. I used Efiwym’s rolling pin to roll out along the edges. I nailed down the threshold, and I was done.
Thank goodness for my pneumatic nailer. As I nailed down the baseboards and quarter rounds, there were no smashed fingers, bent nails, hammer dents or swearing.
