DIY Project – Kitchen Countertops – Time to Go?

I have owned 4 homes; I have replaced the countertops on only one.  Maybe we did not live in the homes long enough to tire of the existing countertops.  We finally decided to replace the countertops after 20 years in our present house.

We bought the house as a model, so we did not have any choices in the interior design.  In the 1980’s, wallpaper was popular.  This house had wallpaper in 7 rooms.  Sometimes it was wallpaper below the chair rail or on all the walls in the room.  We had blue flowery wallpaper in the kitchen.  So, we had countertops with a blue tint.  We loved the Early-American motif at the time.  However, we did not like the color blue in a kitchen.

We had just moved from our 2-year-old custom home, and we decided we did not have time to build another home in another city.  The kitchen in that house was yellow.  We picked that color because we wanted a yellow kitchen.  I could not see me tearing off the brand-new wallpaper, so we tolerated the blue kitchen.  Nonetheless, I knew Efiwym, my wife, wanted her yellow kitchen eventually.  Until we replaced the countertops, the wallpaper would stay.
