DIY Project – Kitchen Countertops – Not Yet – Time to Paint

After 10 years, well before the time to replace the countertops, we decided to remove the wallpaper and paint our kitchen yellow anyways.  The blue countertops did not clash to badly with the yellow walls, but eventually, we would replace the countertops.

We stripped the wallpaper from the kitchen, dinette and foyer and it was not fun.  Kudos to the wallpaper installer for making the removal difficult.  I made the mistake of using carpenter’s glue to fix a few seams that had opened over the years.  While some strips of wallpaper came off easily, the glued edges had to be scraped. The drywall needed to be repaired at some points where we gouged into the surface to remove remnants of the wallpaper.

After removing all the bits of wallpaper and patching the drywall, we were ready to paint.  We put a new coat of white on the ceilings first.  Efiwym, my wife, helped with rolling paint on the walls, as I did the cutting in.

So, we finished painting and we now had our yellow kitchen.  When would we replace the countertops?
