DIY Project – Kitchen Countertops – Installation – Finally Done
With the disposal in place, I removed all the support wood that once were holding it up. I left off the dishwasher waste hose for now. I wanted to get the PVC waste pipes connected. That is where I hit a snag.
The drains of this offset sink were not in the same location as the old one. The pipe for the disposal did not line up and the pipe for the small sink basin was too short. I tried my best to get the pipe for the disposal to fit, but I was out of luck.
The day was getting late, and I was sooo close of having this project done. However, I needed to go to the hardware store and get some PVC extension pipe. I took one of the extension pipes to use as a reference and I was glad I did. I did not want to change the waste pipes coming out of the wall, so I needed to find a flexible pipe for the disposal. The store had a limited supply, but I found the pipes I needed. Whew! I was afraid I needed to go to another hardware store several miles away.
I got home and gathered all the pipes I needed to complete the project. The pipe to the small basin was slightly a different angle coming from the wall. I was able to make it work. The flexible pipe made connecting up the disposal easy. I put the dishwasher waste hose on the disposal and tightened down the clamp. Everything was hooked up. I plugged both drains, filled up both basins with water, and check for leaks. I took a look under the sink, and I ran my hand around the drain flanges. No leaks. On my knees, I released the plugs from both basins, one at a time. Again, no leaks. Feeling good, I turned on the faucet and flipped the switch for the disposal. Continued success. I shut off the disposal and moved the faucet to the other basin and turned it on. The sink was leak free. (I did not test the dishwasher waste hose for leaks, but days later, still no leaks from the hose.)
I cleaned up my mess and packed up all the tools sitting on the counter and the floor. I wiped the sink and counter clean of any debris. I left the cleaning supplies in a box for a few days before I put them away. (Just in case.) Efiwym, my wife, put all the things back on the counter in their appropriate places. She even gave the faucet a test and pulled out the head to play with the spray. I did not know if she was happy about the countertops or just having the project finally done.
As Efiwym stepped in the kitchen to start supper, I sat at the dinette table. I looked over my countertops, liking what I saw. As sat back against the back of the chair, even though exhausted, I felt calm, contented, and yes, relishing my Zen Moment.
