We made our trips to the two stone distributors and decided on the Icon Gold quartz. We visited Elizabeth the following weekend and finalized the purchase. We would see the template guy in 2 weeks to measure up the countertops.
I have two projects related to this Non-DIY project. Tiling the backsplash and installing pendant lights.
Efiwym, my wife, and I decided on a full-tiled backsplash instead of a 3-inch high stone one. However, the verdict was still out for the tile on the wall in front of the desk. Now that we had picked the quartz for our kitchen countertops, we started shopping for backsplashes.
We visited just two stores and found the backsplash we wanted. It was a mosaic with narrow tiles with white, gray and tan overtones. We even found the color of the grout. However, we did not purchase the tile or the grout. First, I did not measure to see how much tile we needed. Second, we were not in agreement of tiling the whole wall in front of the desk. I thought it would be too much tile there.
I painted backsplashes, I wallpapered backsplashes, but I never tiled a backsplash. In fact, I never tiled anything. Once the countertops are installed, I will be writing about by first-time adventure of tiling.
The second project would be installing pendant lights over the peninsula. I had thoughts about doing this project since we talked about replacing the countertops three years ago. Now that we were replacing the countertops, it was time to let Efiwym know about it. She was receptive to the pendant lights. In fact, since it appeared this was HER kitchen, she wanted a say in the project. You will get no arguments from me.
I wanted to at least get the pendant lights installed before the new countertops were in place. I have no problem with sitting or standing on the old countertops, but there would be no way I wanted to put my fat butt on a quartz peninsula that would have a 12-inch overhang. No way, no how! Additionally, I needed to retrofit a new switch box where I would run the wires to the lights. It would need to be in place before I tiled the backsplash. Again, I will be writing about my escapades once I start that project.
