I had written a Facebook post before starting my blog. Efiwym, my wife came across it as a 2017 Facebook® memory. Not sure it was the launching pad to write my DIYer blog, but it was certainly a precursor to my self-deprecating, tongue in cheek method to my blog writing. It was posted after I had knee surgery to remove a damaged, infected bursa sac. All was the result of installing hardwood flooring in the family room sans knee pads.

Reposted for my extended Facebook Friends:
Thanks to all my 10 Facebook® friends, extended Facebook® friends and Kevin Bacon for their well wishes. I am back to work and in less pain prior to the surgery.
While I was lying on that operating bed, I requested Frank Sinatra music to be played. I should have been specific and requested, “My Way.” While it would have been frowned on by the doctors, it would have been apropos. I could see me pumping my fist as Ol’ Blue Eyes crooned the words, “And did it my way!”
There were some questions regarding my injury. Would I do it again? Yes, because I have two other rooms to get done! Would I do anything differently? Yes, wear knee pads, Duh! Why would you take the risk of injury to lay down a wood floor? Why did you not hire a contractor? My response is, “Why does any DIYer renovate their house?” Pride, sense of self-worth, cheapness, thoughts of enormous profits from the sale of the house?
I am proud to be in the United States of America where we can still choose between DIY or hiring a contractor. I will not kneel during the national anthem because I can’t and it really hurts, instead I would put my hand on my heart as I sit. So, the next time you are at a Home Depot®, Lowes®, et al and see a frustrated DIYer with a confused look on his face, stop to shake his hand and ask him, did you consider hiring a contractor?
For all you DIYers share this post to all your anti-DIY and contractor Facebook friends.
Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” play it and have a good laugh, I did!
