DIY Project – Cutting the Cable – Installing the Roku in the Family Room

I still needed to install the Roku© in the family room.  I had an opportunity the following weekend to install it.  This Roku© had a voice-controlled remote and a power adapter.  It was a small improvement from the one in our bedroom.  Since I installed a Roku© before, I went through the process installing it without any issues.  However, when I needed to check the DVR app, I could not watch any of the recorded shows.  The app would just take me back to the picture of the recorded show.  I went back to the TV in the living room.  That DVR app allowed me to watch recorded shows.  The same was true for the iPad and the TV in our bedroom.

I went through the route of reinstalling the DVR app and then the Roku© app and finally re-installing the Roku©.  I was still not able to watch recorded shows.  So, I hit the reset button on the back of the Roku©, and that is when things got worse.  I received an error message on the TV that I needed to go to the “troubleshooting site for the remote.”  The remote stopped working.  I got the remote from the Roku© from our bedroom, and I was able to get back to the home screen on the Roku app, but I still could not watch recorded shows.  That was it!  Everything was put back in the box and I was taking the Roku© back to the store.

I got into my car and headed back to the store to return the Roku©.  I went to customer service, and the salesclerk was sympathetic about my problem, and he was ready to give me a refund.  I asked, “Can I just exchange it?”  He asked if I knew where they were located, and I told him yes.  I proceeded to go back to the shelf where the Roku©s were.  I grabbed one and headed back to the front of the store.  He scanned the new one and gave it back to me with my receipt and I headed home.

Efiwym, my wife, had some shopping to do, so when I got home, the Roku© install had to wait.  After we returned, I took the Roku© box and went into the family room to install it.  I opened the box, and I noticed that the batteries were not in the Roku© remote.  Well, that was different. I was ready to install the batteries, and I observed that there was not a power adapter.  I grabbed the box and discovered I got the wrong one.  I should have just let it go, but I bought the upgraded one on sale, and I felt cheated.  Everything was put back into the box, and I was ready to return this one.  Jeez!

I was done for the day with Roku©.  I will return it tomorrow.
