It seems we have been having technology issues recently. I could not get the DVR app to load on the Roku© in our bedroom, and now the wireless cable receiver in our bedroom was also acting up. The last several nights when we go to bed and turn on the TV, the cable would freeze up. Sometimes we would not even get a picture. We would have to reboot the receiver, and it would be fine. But, the next night, we would experience the same problem.
As I was contemplating the cable receiver issue, I thought maybe, just maybe, it was due to the Roku®. The timing seems to coincide with the installation with the Roku® and the cable receiver problems. So, one night after we went through the motions of rebooting the receiver, I disconnected the power cable from the Roku©.
The next night…the cable was fine. No freezing up, no need to reboot. That same night, I reconnected the power cable to the Roku© and moved it to the end of the right side of the TV and moved the cable receiver to the left side. The following morning, I was curious if separating the two devices would work. I turned on the TV, switched the source to Roku and tried to load the DVR app. And it…worked! Apparently these two wireless devices must be interfering with each other. I would check it again after I came home from work.
After work I went upstairs and checked out the TV. The cable was fine, and the DVR app loaded. It finally dawned on me that we did not need antennas for any TV that had the DVR app. The DVR works with the one antenna it is attached to, and the apps works with that DVR.

I had not yet installed Roku on the not so smart TV in the family room, but I would do it soon. I mentioned it to Efiwym, my wife, about my discovery and she seemed puzzled until I explained it to her. We only needed one good antenna for the three TVs with the DVR app. She mentioned we bought 2 antennas we did not need, however she shrugged it off, since they only cost us fifteen bucks, Anyway, we needed them for the other dumb TVs. When I brought up the piece of missing paint behind the antenna in the family room, she said just leave the antenna up. That sounded like a great idea, but I would check in the basement if we had any leftover paint.
We just needed to download the apps we needed to watch all our food and home shows. However, we already have a free subscription with Max©, so we do not need to purchase Discovery+©. I think we are closer to “cut the cable!”
